Frequently Asked Questions

Check-in starts at 2pm and check-out is at 11am. For guests who wish to arrive earlier or depart later, we offer luggage storage and can organise a scooter to explore the area in the meantime. Please note that we are very small and with only five bungalows early check-ins are very rare.

Unfortunately not. Working without a proper working visa (also in exchange for accomodation) is prohibited in Indonesia and fined with deportation. As the working visa for foreigners is very expensive and a very long process, we focus on only employing Indonesians.

• WILL THERE BE A SURF SESSION ON CHECK-IN DAY?
  There is no surf session on the day of check-in. On the day of arrival you must take part in a surf introduction, which takes place at 3/4 pm in the afternoon.
• DO I HAVE TO BRING ANY SURF OR YOGA EQUIPMENT?
  During your stay at Roots we will provide you with a surfboard that will fit your surf level. If you already have your own surfboard you are welcome to bring it with you. Due to the fact that the sun is very strong, we will provide you with a rash vest. It is also a good idea to bring a surf legging or just long/tight sports trousers to protect your skin from the sun. For the yoga lessons we will provide you with yoga mats and blocks.
• WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET AROUND IN LOMBOK?
  In Lombok everyone gets around by motorbike. If you never used one before don’t worry. We can show you how to drive. It’s a little bit like driving a bicycle. At Roots we can help you to rent a motorbike and a helmet. To drive in Lombok you need a IDP (International driving permit). Apply for IDP in your country before you arrive if you plan to drive a motorbike or car. The motorbike rental is 65,000 IDR per day.
• CAN I COME BY MYSELF?
  Due to the fact that we are a very small retreat with a relaxed and open vibe it will be easy for you to get to know the others. As a solo traveller you can choose to book a single bungalow for yourself or stay at our dorm or twin bed bungalow with others. So, don’t be afraid to come on your own!
• WHAT ARE THE OPERATION HOURS OF OUR RECEPTION?
  8am – 5pm everyday. We will be there all day so if you need something just approach one of our staff. If you are checking in/out outside of the opening hours just let us know.

• Plane: Lombok’s international airport is in Praya, just 25 minutes drive to Roots. You can find direct flights from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. There are also many flights from domestic airports like Bali and Java.
• Slow Ferry: Lombok also has a harbour. A slow ferry is running between Bali (Padang Bai) and Lombok (Lembar), usually leaving every full hour. The ferry takes about 4 to 6 hours depending on the weather conditions.
• Fast Boat: Fast boats running between Bali (Padang Bai) and Lombok (Sengiggi or Bangsal). As the name suggests they are faster than the slow ferry. The trip will takes about 2.5 hours.

The airport pick-up is included in our packages. We will wait for you at the exit with a sign. If you need a pickup from the harbour, we will add an additional fee of IDR 200’000.

Do you need a transfer to the airport after your stay? We can organise this for you. Cost: IDR 200,000

Before completing your booking with Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat, please ensure that you have read our terms and conditions. ​

You agree to our terms and conditions when you sign up and/or transfer the full/partial amount to us, for any packages offered on Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat website and/or customized package at request via email, or any relevant social media platform.

Prerequisite for Participation

The participant explicitly declares that there are no medical reservations as far as their active surfing is concerned. Participants must be at least 18 years old.​ Participants declare that they have ample swimming abilities and are physically fit in order to participate in daily surfing.

Cancellation Policy

There will be no exceptions made to our policy. We don’t offer discounts or refunds for arriving late or leaving early. We don’t offer any refunds for any reasons, including weather, injury, or personal emergencies.

Due to the fact that we are a very small retreat with limited spaces, any last minute cancellations impact us greatly. Once your spot has been confirmed, that spot will be unavailable for someone who would have booked otherwise. If you are concerned about financial losses due to late cancellations, we strongly suggest getting a travel insurance policy.

• If you cancel before 90 days prior to the first day of the retreat, 100% of your deposit payment will be transferred to another retreat date within a one year period.
• If you cancel 30 – 90 days prior to the first day of the retreat, 25% of your deposit payment is forfeited and 75% of your balance is credited to any other date within one year of your original booking.
• If you cancel within 30 days of the first day of your retreat 50% of your deposit payment balance will be credited to any other available date within one year of your original booking. The other 50% is forfeited.
• If a guest cancels within 14 days of their retreat start date, their deposit payment is forfeited in full.
• All cancellations must be received by email. Roots Lombok is not responsible for expenses incurred in preparation for any cancellation trips, such as airline tickets, or for cost incurred due to travel delays, flight cancellations or illness.
• Please also take note that:
  • No refund will be offered once guest(s) have checked in to Roots Surf & Yoga Retreat.
  • No refund will be offered if guest(s) choose to leave Roots Surf & Yoga Retreat before their package is over.
  • In special circumstances, refunds and/or partial refunds will only be offered at our absolute discretion.
  • The selected package can be changed one month before arrival, but not thereafter.

Rebooking

Plans change and we understand. However, should guests want to change their arrival dates, Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat reserves the right to charge a rebooking fee of €100 for changes up to 28 days prior to arrival. Booking fee is €150 for changes up to 14 days prior to arrival (Subject to availability).

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that guests purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and other unforeseen events.

Risk Acknowledgement

Surfing holidays, like many adventure and sporting activities especially water-based ones, include a certain degree of risk. Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat is not liable for any accidents, injuries or death that may occur during surfing and surfing-related activities. There are clinics in Kuta and hospital in Mataram which provide sufficient medical care. Please make sure you have a good medical insurance to cover any health related issues that might arise during your travels.

Bad Surf Conditions

Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat is not responsible for poor surfing conditions. We will try our best to look for surf spots that are suited to conditions of the day and your level. However, sometimes our plans may not work out as expected due to poor conditions or low quality waves that makes it difficult or impossible to surf, and unfortunately we are unable to control nor predict these factors.

​Force Majeure

Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat is not responsible and cannot offer compensation in situations that are beyond our control, where the performance of the contract is affected by circumstances which amount to “force majeure”. Circumstances amounting to “force majeure” includes any event which we could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. These circumstances include, but not limited to, earthquake, volcano eruption, flights affected by volcano smoke, flood, landslide, tsunami, storm, civil strife, fire, war or threat of war, actual or threaten terrorist activity, epidemic, pandemic or similar situations beyond our control. The Property is not responsible for interruptions to utilities or services, including but not limited to electricity, water supply, internet, or telecommunications, where such interruptions are caused by external providers, government authorities, maintenance works, weather conditions, or other events beyond the Property’s reasonable control (force majeure). Temporary interruptions of this nature do not constitute a breach of contract and do not automatically entitle guests to refunds, cancellations, or compensation. Where reasonably possible, the Property may offer assistance or alternative arrangements as a goodwill gesture, without admission of liability. Please keep in mind that you are visiting Indonesia and occasional (but temporary) power outages do occur.

Exchange Rates

All packages are priced out in Euros. Any request for payment in foreign currency will be based on current foreign exchange rates (we use google currencies for up-to-date rates). Also, please note that web prices listed in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) are provided for reference purposes only. Actual pricing may vary based on the prevailing exchange rates at the time of payment. Final pricing will be calculated according to the current exchange rates.

Surfboards

All surfboards and equipment at your disposal are in good condition and under your responsibility. You are liable to be charged for any damage or loss of equipment during your use. We have a small selection of surfboards, please handle them with care and treat it as if it were your own.

​Loss, Damages and Injuries

Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat is not responsible for any lost or damaged personal goods. Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat is not liable for damages and/or personal injuries.

​Although we can arrange rentals of cars, motorbikes and scooters, please bear in mind that we are not the party that actually rent these vehicles. We cannot, therefore, be held responsible for any accident or injuries resulting from the state, quality or operability of any such vehicles. Most vehicles are rented out by locals where insurance is not included, again, which is why having a good travel insurance is very important. Remember to check the conditions of the vehicles before agreeing to it, and make sure to always park in places where you will have to pay parking. The cost of 10,000IDR weighs far less than the cost of a lost scooter.

Others

No outsiders are allowed to enter the premises without permission from the hotel staff. Should an outsider spend the night in the hotel without permission, a surcharge of IDR 500,000 will be levied on the guest who brings the outsider onto the hotel premises.

During your stay we might picture/film you around the common areas at the retreat. When booking with us you agree to the terms and allow us to use the images with you on it for Roots Surf Camp & Yoga Retreat marketing purposes (we won’t use any unflattering footage).
